Lorna Widdison Obituary (1932 - 2020)

Lorna Powell Widdison was born Feb. 6, 1932 In Ogden, Utah and passed away May 14, 2020 due to natural causes. She was the daughter of Julian and Venis (Shaw) Powell. She was raised on a farm in Marriott/Slaterville with her 3 sisters. She always worked hard and was a country girl at heart. She graduated from Weber High School where she was a cheerleader. It was there that she met her husband Chad. They were married in 1951. Together they raised two sons Kirk and Kelly. Lorna and Chad had many adventures in life. Chad joined the navy just before they got married and Lorna accompanied him as he was stationed in California and then Guam. She then followed him to Logan, Utah and Pullman, Washington, where she worked to help put him through vet school. They then returned to Utah and settled in West Point where they finished raising their boys and enjoyed living a simple life surrounded by good friends and neighbors. She worked along with Chad in his vet business doing whatever they needed her to do, answering phones, doing books, etc, all while handling all the household and family responsibilities. She was an amazing woman full of service and charity. She took care of her mother-in-law Mina for 10 years after her stroke while still managing 2 households and a farm. She also served as Relief Society President during this time. She served in many callings over the years, including stake librarian and stake historian. She was very meticulous in her service. She loved the gospel and treasured her membership in the church. She loved attending the temple. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She loved her family immensely. She talked often about her mom and sisters recalling many memories of growing up on the farm. She was a loyal friend and awesome neighbor. She was loved by all who truly knew her. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, especially when Chad would tease her. She had a beautiful smile that lit up her eyes. She was full of wisdom that she freely shared to those around her. She loved working in her flower garden and getting her hands in the dirt. She took pride in her yard and her house. Everything was a reflection of her, immaculate, pristine, and beautiful. She is survived by her son Kelly, daughter-in- law Mary, granddaughter Brenna, 2 great-grandchildren Olivia and Decius, her sisters Joan Skeen, Sharon Skeen, Kaye (Virgil) Howe, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Julian and Venis, brother Thomas, husband Chad, and son Kirk. We would like to thank her excellent care givers at Barrington Place and Everest Home Health and Hospice for all their loving care over the last few months of her life. We wish we could name them all but specifically Kenzlee, Kenzie, Kylee, Tamera, Peggy, Cynthia, Lapril, Makayla, Diana, Kathy, and Dale among many more. Even as dementia robbed her of her memories she planted many memories in the hearts and minds of those around her. She will not be forgotten… A private family viewing and graveside service will be held Thursday May 21, 2020. The graveside will be held in the West Point Cemetery at 11:30.
