Rhett Douglas Messerly

–

North Ogden, Utah

With heavy and grieving hearts, we announce the passing of our son, brother and uncle, Rhett Douglas Messerly on November 23rd, 2025. Rhett was born on February 2nd, 1998 to his loving parents, Joel and Libby Messerly, in Ogden Utah.

Rhett attended Weber High School and was known as the ‘goofball’ to his peers, the 'handsome boy with nice muscles' to all the girls. He always had a way of bringing a smile and laughter to those who knew him. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his incredible capacity to help others. He was especially sympathetic to women in need, whether it was helping them dig out their car from the snow, providing a meal or helping them feel safe in their circumstances. Throughout his life, friends were drawn to him because of his immense capacity for accepting people for who they are, no matter how they came.

As a child, Rhett was quite the schmoozer, you could bet that he had at least 65 girlfriends at all times. He was very athletic; you would most often find him on a football or baseball field playing with everything he had or performing insane trampoline tricks in the backyard. In addition to his athleticism, he was also quite competitive even in card games that could end in all-out brawls with his siblings. Rhett also loved climbing trees and was occasionally rescued by the fire Department for climbing too high.

As an adult he began going by his middle name, and most of his friends know him as 'Doug'. He loved to kick it with his brother and his friends mostly playing disk golf, fishing, camping, hiking, or anything to do with being outside. He was also a skilled chef who loved to share his passion of food and cooking with his friends and family, always creating new recipes and posting them online for others to try. Rhett (Doug) was a hard worker with any job he had and was always adored by those he worked with, both as a child and as an adult. Rhett (Doug) loved to tinker; he often took things apart just to put them back together again, making broken things work again.

Rhett (Doug) is missed dearly by his family and all those who knew him. Those whose lives he touched will forever remember his kindness, big smile, and silly natured personality. We find some comfort in knowing his pain here is over and he rests with his Heavenly Father again.

Rhett (Doug) is survived by his parents Joel and Libby Messerly; his siblings, Charlotte Orton (Travis), Rachel Beecher (Trevor), Jake Messerly and Maren Messerly; his nine nieces and nephews; Grandparents Walter and Maxine Mockett, and all his Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He joins his wonderful and loving Grandparents Russ and Myrna Messerly, nephew Rowan Messerly, and cousin Luke Messerly in Heaven and is sure to be getting a great big welcome hug from them all.

In honor of his life, a viewing for family and friends will be held at the Ben Lomond Stake Center, 3550 North 650 East North Ogden, UT on Thursday December 4th from 10:00-11:30am with funeral services starting at 12:00pm. Following will be a private graveside ceremony for the family.
